Recipe Ingredients

  • (a) jasmine rice
  • (b) marinated sliced sirloin, cremini mushroom
  • (c) cucumber, red radish, carrot
  • (d) sesame vinaigrette
  • (e) bibb lettuce
  • (f) korean chili sauce
  • (g) chopped kimchi

Equipment Needed

  • small saucepot & lid
  • wooden spoon
  • skillet or saute pan
  • scissors
  • meat tongs
  • mixing bowl
  • salad tongs
  • serving plates & bowls

Recipe Directions

  1. For best results, take the sirloin out of the refrigerator 10 minutes before starting to cook. If you skip this step, you may need to cook the meat longer than this recipe card indicates.
  2. Pour the jasmine rice (a) into a small saucepot. Add 1/2 cup of water (for each serving you are making) to the rice. Put the saucepot over medium-high heat and bring up to a simmer. Do not stir. Once the rice is simmering, stir three times and then turn down to medium-low. Cover with a lid or foil and cook for 10-12 minutes.
  3. When the rice has simmered for 5 minutes, start cooking the meat. Heat a skillet or saute pan over medium-high heat for 2 minutes. When the pan has warmed up, add 1 tbsp of oil or enough to coat the bottom of the pan. Cut open the package of korean sirloin (b) and place in the pan. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Sear for 90 seconds, then turn each piece of sirloin over and sear the other side for 90 seconds.
  4. While the sirloin is searing, add the vegetables (c) to a mixing bowl. Pour the sesame vinaigrette (d) over the vegetables. Toss with tongs or your hands to coat the vegetables with dressing.
  5. When the korean sirloin has cooked to your liking, place on a plate.
  6. At this point, the rice should be ready. Taste the rice and if it is cooked to your preferred consistency, remove from the heat. Spoon into a serving bowl.
  7. Lay out a piece of bibb lettuce (e) on your serving plate. Spoon the rice into the lettuce cup and add a few pieces of korean sirloin. Top with vegetables. Garnish with korean chili sauce (f) and kimchi (g) if you wish.
